THE COURAGE TO BECOME

THE COURAGE TO BECOME

Michelangelo’s unfinished statues, Florence, Italy

Here I am

Approaching eighty

And I remain

Perfectly incomplete,

Facing my angels and demons,

Trudging and soaring

Through the uncharted

Times and throes

Of my own existence.

What will it take to

Graduate beyond

“looking into the glass darkly?”

What will it take to

Reside consistently

In Nirvana,

“See things face to face”

 and

Be completely at peace

With myself

In all circumstances?

Oh, I keep waiting for,

Looking for,

The Golden Ring,

The ring of power

And Wisdom,

And presence,

And perfection.

I venture forward

Through time and hope

Looking for

My own finished product…

When I can finally (!!)

Look at it

Like some perfected portrait,

And say,

“Well done.  Its finished!”

Well, really I don’t.

Something in me likes to

Grow,

Attracts the tension between

Here and there,

Abhors the boredom of

Something forever finished.

Perhaps already I am

While I am not

What I shall be.

Perhaps I am not

What I shall never be.

Perhaps, just perhaps,

There will all-ways remain

A transformative perfection

In the core and fabric

Of my obvious and eternal

Becoming.

Does it mean,

Within the

Perfect and complex

imperfections

of my

Uncharted becomings,

that

I am actively present

 in the

Awesome grace

Of always Becoming….

Of always….

Being??

While creation

Continues

“from glory to glory,”

through chaos and order,

forever

tapping into this Mysterious More,

I find myself

Caught and blessed

Within the vortex

Of

A breathtaking actuality of being.

WHEN I’VE HAD ENOUGH

WHEN I’VE HAD ENOUGH

When I have had enough,

things change

and I outgrow

old phobias and

rationalized fears…..

when I’ve had enough.

When I have had enough,

life confirms

my connection

between

long hidden imprints

and

my liberated readiness….

When I have had enough.

When I have had enough,

my tenacious ego

surrenders its

unbending rational clarity

and pays homage

to Wisdom’s

intruding hospitality….

When I have had enough.

When I have had enough,

Obstacles transmute

into synchronicity,

Monsters

become visiting angels,

Fear

becomes trust….

When I have had enough.

When I have had enough,

my armor

melts into

liquid love,

soul-strangers

become

healing lovers,

and the Light

shines through

the darkness….

When I have had enough.

NEUROSES AND COMPLEXES

NEUROSES AND COMPLEXES

Pix by Hal Edwards, in The Great Library, Alexandria, Egypt

We haven’t yet

Come to recognize

And benefit from

the true

Value

And healing capacities

Of our all too

Familiar, repeatable

Neuroses

And complexes.

Instead of

Heeding their signals

and

Learning ways to

Interpret their

energy patterns,

We steel ourselves,

Ego-bound,

And seek

external

getaways

from the

demanding tension

and psychic discomfort

spewing from

soul sickness.
