TRUTH THAT TRANSCENDS DOGMA

TRUTH THAT TRANSCENDS DOGMA

“Keep your hypothesis open,”

my mentor Morton told me.

He taught me that evil

feeds on ego’s popular illusion:

“My truth is the whole truth.”

Reasonable thinking,

scientific thinking at its best,

does not allow ultimatums

to trash further exploration and

evolution of new truth.

Bonheoffer discovered that truth

is relative;

and Einstein’s

cosmic theory

hinges on relativity.

Gandhi said truth

was the highest good,

and to be a truth-seeker

was the ultimate pathway

of genuine love,

through nonviolent resistance

against all injustice.

Our sacred scriptures

proclaim, “…and the truth

will set you free.”

Explore the truth

without hesitation

wherever you find it

with reasonable thinking

and an open heartedness,

maintaining a humility

that empowers you to

avoid hubris

and laziness.

To maintain your

Soul Freedom

is of the essence in

pursuing meaning and purpose

in all circumstances.

Our inner spirit

is faithful;

your Inner Voice

shall never fail you.

The trickster does come

and life is tested,

while doubt and disbelief

have their tenuous

flings.

You shall be refined

by fire without being consumed,

swept into deep waters

without drowning;

you shall rise beyond belief

into knowing,

and you shall stroll

unburned

in the Great Furnace

of blissful unknowing.

If you must,

change your friends;

now you must choose

between your wise soul

and bondage to any

external mandate.

If you must,

change your lifestyle,

because you must choose

between synchronicity

and compulsivity.

If you must,

change your attitudes,

because you become

what you desire

you become

what you think.

There is a Force,

Unseen and always seeing;

Unknown and always knowing;

Absent from the mind;

present within the soul.

“Fear not, little flock;

Abba is giving you

the Kingdom of God.

It is already

within you.

Whatever your circumstance,

wake up

and

see;

surrender to

the truth of Love

and the love of Truth.”

ALL I ONCE DESPISED

ALL I ONCE DESPISED

All that I contrived

and despised

in you,

Hal Edwards,

all I sought to

erase or fortify

I irrevocably embrace,

I now concede

to the Greater Gods

who gather all of me,

my light and my darkness,

into

Soul-saving

Reunion.

Yes, you have

sampled Eden’s

forbidden

fruit;

You

have experienced

the intensities of

passion

and soared with

enchanted

wings of grace.

You have groveled through

dark dangerous caverns,

clung from

precarious precipices,

always restless,

searching and yearning

for more depth,

more meaning,

more life-giving purpose.

With your compelling,

all-consuming

passion

for excellence,

you neglected

restfulness and play;

you abandoned

your very soul

while seeking

to save

yourself

through your busyness.

Yes, yes, yes,

I embrace you,

Hal Lamar Edwards, Jr.,

I embrace you,

I forgive you,

I love you

the way you are.

Your divine wound

wears well now.

You limp

with ancient Jacob,

having wrestled

through the long nights

with

your dark angel.

Oh, the list of grievances

goes on and on—

your naïve hopefulness,

your acculturated religiosity,

your narcissistic introspections,

your intellectual snobbery,

your hierarchy of illusions,

your distended self identity,

your positioning for approval,

your ego-centered goodness,

your unconscious arrogance—

Yes, yes, yes.

“Dr.” Hal Lamar Edwards, Jr.,

I did not overlook

your shadowed footprints.

Alas,

good brother,

finally

they lie all spent,

awaiting their

redeeming moment.

Like fermented compost,

the metamorphosis

is well underway.

Well done,

imperfect and faithful

servant.

Welcome.

Your Eucharist awaits you.

Limp gracefully

into the

kingdom

where

Original Goodness

reigns for all.

LITTLE SOPHIE

LITTLE SOPHIE

IMG_3181

You know nothing

of ego,

and you rule your dog-world

with untainted distinction.

You know nothing

about bowing to

anything or anybody,

and you rule your domain

without question.

Obedience

was never your

calling nor fate;

yours is one of

absolute surety.

You defy

us humans

who operate on

compliance, ought’s, should’s,

rewards and punishments.

Your sharp strident bark

speaks louder

than mere words.

After all,

everyone already

knows that you

want what you want….

now.

Cute prissy paws,

little white ball of cotton

with big piercing eyes,

tail like a flag,

nearly fifteen

and bouncy as

a two-year old,

hold fast

to your eminence,

remain the queen

of dog-dom.
